IPX8 rating, really true?
Reviewed in Australia on 5 August 2020
This has an IPX8 sticker displayed prominently on the front of the box, so I thought OK that's good. When installing the batteries I noticed there is NO seal to prevent water easily entering the battery compartment. Then I saw a small slip of paper in the bottom of the box which says this is OK, the torch will continue to operate for more than 30 minutes at a depth of 1 metre. I do find this hard to believe as water does conduct electricity. My main concern though is repeated condensation in the battery compartment when coming to and from warm to cold environments, a normal occurrence when camping. Surely this will cause corrosion to the batteries and eventually the electronics. Sure, I can constantly check this but I shouldn't have to do this. Yes, I should have checked all this before purchasing but I believed the IPX8 rating sticker. Time will tell. Happy for someone to say all is OK.
