I have purchased several pair of Pearl Izumi tights over the years and have always been pleased. These are an exception, however. As another review notes, the fabric is different - more rigid - and they don't stretch well to allow them to be form-fitting and as comfortable as others I own. They also run really small. The first pair I ordered was a medium and they were so small (like a small or even X-small) that I could not squeeze into them. I loved the color and really wanted a nice pair of grey tights, so I returned them and ordered an XL (on sale for about $13, so how could I go wrong). The mediums were so small, I thought the XL would work. The XLs were a little loose in the waist, but fit pretty well in the hips / thighs. I kept the XLs and altered the waist a little (I know this isn't something most people would want to do). I then ordered a size large and am fairly pleased with the fit; however, the fabric is not as nice, soft, and pliable as other Pearl Izumi's I have. I got a great price on the large also, so am pleased now for the money I spent. Not Pearl's best effort, for sure. Buy a size larger and make sure you get them at a great discount.
I am only 5'2" and weigh 110 pounds. Normally I wear size 0-2 in pants. The small was way too small for me...and this item is supposed to be worn over your cycling bottoms. There was just no way. And I even went to Pearl Izumi's website to check these out. My recommendation is to size up.
As for the warmth of this...well it's a little scratchy inside but I'll deal with that because when it's cold I wear long socks anyway. But compared to my other thermal that I always wear this just does not cut it. For fall yes..but if you ride winter this will not do.
I'm honestly shocked how much I hated these tights. I've got plenty of Pearl Izumi gear that I bought over the past years that I love, and I even have a previous year's version of these exact tights. But this version is terrible. The fabric just doesn't stretch nearly enough, so they're rigid and not form-fitting at all. I couldn't even get them fully on, and even if I could have, I wouldn't have been able to move in any satisfactory way. I returned these. Don't buy them.
