The product arrived in an uninspiring plain brown box with poor instructions for such a premium price (though easy to put together). It appears to be a robust product, but it's not completely clear that plenty of space behind the display is needed for full range of movement, due to the nature of the arm mechanism. If you place your desk against a wall, this may be an issue for you, unless you bring the monitor further away from the wall than you would with a stand. Didn't work for me, ergonomically, since that resulted in the display being too close. I sent it back.
I've been using various monitor arms for the last few years, and all of them have been sub-£50 this-or-that. They did the job, but they were difficult to manipulate, 'held' the weight of my monitors on paper, although possibly not in reality (the forward-lean was noticeable), and always gave me a feeling of unease -- especially with my larger 34" ultrawide.
Well, enter the Ergotron. I, with my desk against the wall (a desk with an 80cm depth), decided to take the plunge. While it would be nice if my desk weren't against the wall, ergonomically there were no issues. There's nice cable-routing, tension adjustments are easy, and the smoothness of motion was something I didn't expect. Oh yeah, and thumb screws for the vesa mount? Yes, please.
I plunged so much, in fact, that I immediately bought another two. I've been convinced, and Ergotron have ruined their competitors... and my wallet. Have bought again, and would absolutely recommend.
Took a long time to decide but knew I would have to pay out for this sort of desk accessory. The cheaper ones all come with their warnings so wait a month, save up, never deal with the dreaded droop! Lovely in the Matt Black too.
Something that isnt overly clear is that you actually get two arm mounting options in one with this. Either just the upper part used if you want a shorter outreach from bracket or use both to get the full span. Also need to use both to get it as close to wall as possible - should be able to achieve 11cm to the bracket then add your screen depth.
High quality and easy to assemble. Couple of tips if anyone else is looking for help on a Samsung 49". At first once installed I was disappointed to see the arm sag down but not realising you need to adjust the tension and keep turning for some time once you have it assembled with the monitor on. Now it is rock solid. Second is the sagging monitor holder. The spring cannot hold it in position as others have said. So after reading other people saying they jammed something in between I was wondering where. Underneath the bracket is where you need to put something. you can see when you pull the monitor to the position you need there is a gap between two metal parts. I found a Yale key positioned in between the two was perfect as it has the grooves to give you a nice area to hold onto.. You need to pull out the bottom of the screen and then slowly let it go back to position until it 'bites' whatever you have put in the gap! Perfect. Really pleased!
Bought first time the Amazon one, although they are both technically from the same manufacturer, the Ergotron one feels more premium, more rigit and the paint job of the matte black is top notch. Also the package comes with full written documentation how you are supposed to assemble and, most importantly, to adjust it with the given alan key! Used it with my ultrawide LG 32", now can't even imagine how it can be without the arm stand. It's that good and gives you the desk space you might need!
